Judge Hood was nominated for appointment Jan. 24, 1990 by President Bush® ; confirmed by the Senate on April 27th 1990.

Education: University of Kentucky, Lexington, 1960-65, B.S. in commerce, 1965-1966, graduate studies, Dept. of Economics, graduate teaching asst.; University of Kentucky College of Law, Lexington, 1970-72, J.D.

Military Service: entered active duty, U.S. Army in 1966; released as CPT in 1970 after service as infantry commander in Vietnam, 1968-69.

Career Record: 1965, laborer, Ashland Oil, Inc., Ashland KY; 1966, bricklayer’s helper, Armco Steel Corp, Ashland, KY; 1971-1972 School years, bus driver, Fayette County Schools, Lexington, KY; 1972-1976, Law Clerk to Judge H. David Hermansdorfer, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Catettsburg;1976-1990, Magistrate Judge, U.S. District Court Eastern District of Kentucky, Ashland and Catlettsburg. Admitted to KY Supreme Court and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of KY, 1973.

Awards: Kentucky Bar Association Outstanding Judge 1999; military awards and decorations include Bronze Star with “V” Device and four oak leaf clusters, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device and one oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart.
