NOTICE re Overnight Stay

If you live more than 120 miles or two hours drive from the location of the courthouse you may choose to stay overnight during your jury service (including the night before your first appearance). If you choose to stay overnight, please notify the jury clerk and you will receive a subsistence allowance to cover hotel fees ($110 per night) and meals ($68 daily). Be sure to request the hotel's government rate when booking a hotel. You MUST provide a hotel receipt to the jury clerk to be reimbursed for hotel costs; no other receipts are necessary. Reimbursement will be mailed within 30 days of the end of the trial.

It is important that you always check this website or call 1-844-625-5003 after 6:00 p.m. the evening before EVERY report date for further instructions. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PARTICIPANT NUMBER WHEN YOU CALL. Court times and dates can change at last moment's notice, and this will inform you of such and possibly prevent an unnecessary trip. 

  • Requests to be excused MUST be submitted IMMEDIATELY by fax at 1-606-877-7915 or emailed to juror_london@kyed.uscourts.gov
     
  • Excuses CANNOT be taken by telephone. Excuses must be emailed, mailed, hand delivered or faxed. Please include your name, juror number, address and telephone number on your request. The Court will respond to your request as quickly as possible, but it is your responsibility to confirm you have been excused. In case of an extreme emergency (not work related) you can call the U.S. District Court Clerk's Office at 1-606-877-7910.
  • You are REQUIRED to call 1-844-625-5003 or check this website after 6:00 PM the EVENING BEFORE you are to report. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PARTICIPANT NUMBER WHEN YOU CALL. A recording will indicate whether there are any changes or cancellations.
  • BE SURE TO CALL BEFORE REPORTING.

General Information:

  • If reporting for the first time, check the mileage from your home to the courthouse and report your mileage to the clerk.
  • You may want to bring a jacket as the courtroom can be cool.
  • All persons entering the federal building must present a photo I.D such as a driver's license.
  • No cell phones, cameras or recording devices are allowed in the building.
  • Refer to the packet that you received in the mail as to the available parking.
